Jonathan Browning trained as a blacksmith and apprenticed as a gunsmith at the age of 19. His family was baptized in 1840 in Quincy, Illinois. They moved to Nauvoo in 1842. Jonathan invented one of the first repeating rifles and his descendents invented automatic shotguns, rifles, and machine guns.
